SECRET: Multi-million "rakeoffs" of MPs, Ministers and senior bureaucrats ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From "The Guardian" an English broadsheet Guardian Unlimited Minister Admits: I Couldn't Live On State Pension From the Press Association Saturday April 8, 2000 12:47 am Social security minister Jeff Rooker risked angering Labour MPs by admitting he could not live on a state pension of £93 a week. Age Concern described next week's 75p rise in the basic state pensions, to £67.50 a week, as "paltry". The minimum income guarantee which provides a top-up for pensioners on the basic state pension will increase from £75 to £78.45 at the same time. Mr Rooker, 58, who is seen as a traditional Labour MP, is standing down at the next general election. --- `Perceptions' note: Corrupt senior civil-servants (and politicians) now have salaries and pensions of multi-millionaires. Their incomes are 'free' - but paid for by the poor without the consent, approval or vote of the public. - coming entirely from tax-money taken from British working people in return for promises that they - the government - would use that money 'to care for the poor and ensure a decent pension for every working person in Britain.' These taxes are huge and confiscatory - avoided only by the rich - (and of course avoided by senior civil-servants & politicians) working people and the poor, who are told they are paying 20% tax, really have more than 75% of their real (payroll earnings) taken, after VAT and `council tax' are taken into account, and even more is taken from the very poor. --- MP's and senior civil-servants have made sure that _their_ salaries and pensions - paid from tax-money - are index-linked. But pensions of ordinary people who actually _pay_ those taxes are _not_ index-linked --- see www.perceptions.couk.com/tax.html As the self-awarded salaries of the politicians and senior 'civil-servants' have risen beyond decency, so the incomes of low-paid working people have fallen beyond decency. Fat-cats of the senior civil-service are now taking more than a quarter-million pounds sterling per year as their 'packages' Cabinet Office Minister Lord Falconer, the Cambridge-educated barrister, _allows_ himself an _additional_ 'salary' of £66,294 - that's an _extra_ £1274.88 per week (one thousand, two hundred and seventy four pounds and 88p per week) on top of his other "salaries" - at a time when the lowest State pension provision is £67.50 (sixty-seven pounds 50p) per week. The conclusion is clear: our senior civil-servants and politicians are financially corrupt, crazed by the private selfishness and greed that was engendered during the corrupt and lying "Thatcher" and "Major" years. --- But the top UK media are given tax privileges to ensure they never tell the truth about UK taxes - ask Jimmy Young, Terry Wogan and Nicky Campbell But _don't_ expect a straight or truthful answer!
