Journalists face new rules on share tipping Journalists tipping shares they own will have to warn readers or viewers about their interest under legislation proposed by the Government last night. The rules have been drawn up in the wake of The Mirror scandal which led to the dismissal of the two writers of the paper's popular "City Slickers" column, James Hipwell and Anil Bhoyrul, who were found to have owned the shares they recommended. The editor of The Mirror, Piers Morgan, was found to have bought shares in Vilgen Technologies a day before they were tipped in his newspaper but an internal inquiry cleared him of any wrongdoing.
