Robeson - honorary Welshman Robeson was oppressed by US gov't for his brave opposition to racial discrimination, segregation and oppression in America. For some years he was kept prisoner in USA without a passport, but even then he communicated with- (& once - via transatlantic phone-line - managed to sing with-) his friends: Welsh miners and their families. For Robeson had lived in S Wales and knew the miners too were kept in cruel slavery working in the mines. They were paid only a pittance, & their children forced to go hungry and barefoot even in deep mid-winter. Hist. note: When the miners asked for a raise, corrupt & pervert English politicians (mainly Churchill) sent armed soldiers to fire into assembled miners and their families. The Welsh miners were pushed back into slavery under force-of-arms - and even lower wages. Evidence recently released (Oct '06) shows that, to arrange for Churchill to "win" the 1924 election (which deposed the successful government of Ramsay MacDonald) Morton had forged a letter, supposedly from a Russian, to make it seem that English socialists were `sympathetic' to foreign powers, in particular, to Russian communists, then the top "demons" of corrupt Western media. That probably explains the reluctance (of Churchill's and all successive UK gov'ts) to install a reasonable education system in UK.
