Robeson - honorary Welshman Robeson was oppressed by US gov't for his brave opposition to racial discrimination, segregation and oppression in America. For some years he was kept prisoner in USA without a passport, but even then he communicated with- (& once - via transatlantic phone-line - managed to sing with-) his friends: Welsh miners and their families. For Robeson had lived in S Wales and knew the miners too were kept in cruel slavery working in the mines. They were paid only a pittance, & their children forced to go hungry and barefoot even in deep mid-winter. Hist. note: When the miners asked for a raise, corrupt & pervert English politicians i.e Churchill - sent armed soldiers to fire into assembled miners and their families. Welsh miners were pushed back into slavery under force-of-arms - and got even lower wages.
