Deputy Chief Constable Alan Green of Greater Manchester Police said there would be a full and thorough criminal investigation into allegations made in last night's programme. He said the programme, which he had seen for the first time when it was broadcast on BBC1 last night, had made him "ashamed to be part of the British police service" . But he admitted that it may have been necessary for a journalist to go under cover to find evidence of such allegedly racist behaviour.
