Fury as Briton accused of child rape flies home The British High Commissioner in Gambia is at the centre of a diplomatic scandal after allowing a Briton charged with raping a 10-year-old girl to avoid a court trial. John MacKintosh, 63, was arrested near the capital, Banjul, on 16 May. The Gambian magistrate in charge of the case described the senior British diplomat's intervention as 'arrogant and contemptuous'. MacKintosh's Gambia-based British lawyer, Anne Rickinson, confirmed the case had never been dropped but alleged the magistrate had authorised the release of his passport - a claim rejected by the magistrate. --------------- Alex Duval Smith in Banjul and Antony Barnett Sunday July 4, 2004 The Observer -------------------------------------------------- "Perceptions" note: It seems these cases are defensive action by elite pedophiles in UK - see "LaworJustice" - Google If recent actions are a guide, long-term plotting to deprive Customs & Excise of prosecuting power has been driven by the resentment of elite pedophiles - judges, diplomats, police- chiefs - at being caught by Customs when smuggling pedophile material in their baggage after returning from "sex-tourism'.
