Subject: Further - Re: Lies about * * * 3520155" Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 07:19:02 +0100 From: [editor of "Perceptions"] To: INFO@BBC.CO.UK, Feedback , Information , "vlc@bbc.co.uk" , "Hardman, Jonathan" , To:- Marcus Foreman Editorial & Investigation Team BBC Information An initial acknowledgment of your message has been sent. The "Perceptions" article (www.perceptions.couk.com/biglie.html) said that the BBC was knowingly deceiving the British public about 'Violence in Society'. Your message - specifically denying this in the name of the BBC I have classed as 'BBC disregard for truth, honesty and accountability', thereby accusing you of "institutional dishonesty" - a charge which the BBC habitually ignores. However, on reading your message more closely I find that you are guilty of personal dishonesty - in other words you are a liar. You lied on three counts:- 1) Firstly you lied about the BBC's responsibilities and qualifications. Any informed person or organization is in a position to doubt (or question) any statement made by the chairman of the Police Federation, or made by any person with vested interests. But you fatuously claimed that the BBC 'would not be in a position to doubt his statements'. This despite the fact that the BBC itself, using my own conclusions (www.perceptions.couk.com/violence.html), made the program "The Violence File" which agreed with my facts and with my logical inductions, one of which was that police and government and media are motivated to lie about violence and amplify reporting of violence to deceive the public. 2) Secondly you lied, by implication, concerning the qualifications of Mr. Broughton (or 'Brown' according to BBC presenter). The Chairman of the Police Federation is a 'trade representative' with no special professional qualifications or expertise concerning social statistics. Your statement would necessitate that Mr. Broughton be deemed correct on matters of social statistics. Why? By virtue of his position as a 'trade representative'? Or by virtue of his position as a policeman? That lie was even more fatuous than the first. 3) Thirdly, you lied when you wrote (see below) of 'BBC impartiality' and of the 'terms of the Charter'. Many BBC presenters have been guilty of misleading the public by claiming that 'violence in society is on the increase'. Off the cuff I will name three - Jonathan Dimbleby, Peter Allen and Simon Tillotson - but there are many more (this message should be copied to their departments). All presenters who put forward that view are deceiving the public - therefore the BBC is not impartial, or even truthful. And clearly you are not. [ I will not expand on BBC dishonesty in other fields, other than recommend that readers have a look at www.perceptions.couk.com/manip.html ] I have informed the BBC of the facts and of the logical conclusions to be drawn from BBC statements. It is not worthwhile continuing a correspondence with a deceitful organization, or with people willing to lie to deflect truthful criticism.
