Subject: Choose - Facts or false "Reports" Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2000 08:38:50 +0100 From: [ ed at Perceptions ] To: [ BBC addresses ] Hello, 1 I must protest at a broadcast repetition of a lie, during a Radio 5 Live interview - at 0810 today - with Fred Brown [sic, actually Broughton, we are told], Chairman of Police Federation. He said "Violent crime is increasing". 2 We have proved that violence in society has been falling throughout recorded history - see http://www.perceptions.couk.com/violence.html 3 The BBC seems to have a policy of deceiving the public by 'spreading alarm and despondency' but they are not alone. We have also proved that police and government have a vested interest - along with the media - in lying to the public about "violence". 4 Although, since we have established that the BBC is without principles regarding plagiarism and covering-up plagiarism, this justified complaint on behalf of the public will probably be ignored - see http://www.perceptions.couk.com/biglie.html 5 See published news extract - from a Police source - establishing the false premises that media and others present to the public as "alarming statistics". QUOTE > News - from interview in "Drive" - Radio 5 Live > 18 July 2000 > The presenters on the programme are Peter Allen > and Jane Garvey. > > Tony Butler who is the Chief Constable of > Gloucestershire Constabulary and spokesperson of > The Association of Chief Police Officers > frankly stated that 80 % of modern "violent > crime" reports would not have been reported in > past times. > > The police-chief also stressed that today police > encourage greater reporting of certain crimes, > giving the example of rape. > > [ Previously a victim was actively discouraged > from reporting 'sensitive' crimes. ] > > In addition he revealed that 18% of violence is > of a "domestic nature" - violence against women. > British police formerly ignored all domestic > violence (anything short of murder). UNQUOTE <<< Perceptions analysis agrees with the police-chief's first statement, that widened classification has inflated "violent crime" figures by about 500%. We also estimate that increased reporting, his second point, has further inflated the figures by a ratio yet to be determined - probably more than threefold. From those conservative estimates we can see that modern "Violent Crime" reports could be inflated by 1500% or more when compared with the past. Or to rephrase that, if a day's events - with 15 apparent crimes being reported - were replayed 30 or 40 years ago, only one "crime" would have been reported - and maybe not even that one. >>> 6 I request an immediate correction from Radio5 Live and a repeat correction later during the day for working people. The Chairman of the Police Federation may also wish to apologize for an apparent attempt to deceive. regards R J-D (ed. at perceptions) -------------------------------------- FURTHER REFERENCES GO - "search perceptions" - in SEARCH-ENGINE file-ID www/perceptions.couk.com/lieagain.txt
