Fashion / Culture / People

why do we love

fashions & fads and myths & romance?

We are told by dry and fusty experts that fashions are 'frivolous' - that our human fancy for the new and exciting is 'meaningless'.

Not so!

Maybe we like new things for a good reason,
the same reason that makes us different from animal cousins, even those closest to us.

Other life-forms don't seem to get bored with eating and sleeping.

Creative humans need to do more than just idle around & consume.

We want - and need - interest !

There are good reasons why that need - let's call it curiosity - is a great survival tactic:  curiosity forces us to learn new methods, concepts and attitudes.

That continual learning.- let's call it adaptability - is what defines human beings.

Maybe we should be philosophical
about new pop-songs, art, clothes-styles, and street-language.

'Cos if we didn't like them - we might still be living in trees.
