In Elaine Morgan's works (see "The Aquatic Ape" - "The Descent of Woman" - "The Descent of the Child" etc.) - we learn that human "sex crimes" were impossible before the present - and temporary - stage of evolution, for the following reasons (receding back in time):- until fairly recently our primate female ancestors had to show physical 'consent' signs to give the males 'permission' - flexible courtship rituals applied, giving the necessary selection (by the females); slightly earlier, mammalian females had to exhibit physical signs (along with pheremones) of oestrous ['heat'] before a male would respond - ie. the courtship rituals were stronger, more instinctive; even earlier our ancestors experienced only a short mating period when both males and females experienced 'oestrous' - but selection was still practiced on the part of both male and female. We might think of such courtship as instinctive, but that's probably modernist-chauvinism speaking. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FURTHER REFERENCES GO - "search perceptions" - in SEARCH-ENGINE file-ID www.perceptions.couk.com/emorgan.txt
