Scientists working with rhesus monkeys found a biochemical obstacle that would make cloning attempts with human embryos difficult, if not impossible. Gerald Schatten at the University of Pittsburgh and his co-workers found that during cloning, proteins crucial to normal cell division were lost from the cell. Schatten, formerly with the Oregon National Primate Research Center, said that caused the cloned embryos to divide a few times, stall and then die. Richard L.
