Errors about origins "intelligence" / "senses" / "cerebrum" Chauvinist `scientists' write the text-books - so they're full of chauvinist errors:- 1 - That humans must have been "hunters" because owls and cats have forward-looking eyes and `binocular vision' - and so do we. The truth is - all arboreal (tree-living) animals have forward-looking eyes and `binocular vision' and most are eternal vegetarians. That, and our teeth-plan, tells us our ancestors ate fruit and insects. Not dinosaur-steaks! Meat-eaters - like cats and shark - need sharp, backleaning `sabres'. Animals like us, with some incisors for cutting veg and fruit, and lots of molars for grinding cereals / nuts etc, come from non-meat-eating stock. 2 - That human intelligence means we "don't need" such a strong sense of smell - so we just "lost" it (well, nearly all of it). The truth is - even in the reptiles and earliest mammals the sense of smell inhabited the (then thin) skin of `cerebral cortex' - which was necessarily dedicated to identifying, analysing and remembering smells of places / dangers / friends / foes - etc. As primates began using and growing that `gray matter' (the only "thinking stuff" in the brain) for real thinking, we crowded-out much of the room other animals use for _really_ sensitive scenting. But, because the old connections to the "lizard brain", which still rules most of our actual decisions, are hard-wired-in, we're all deeply _emotionally_ affected by certain scents and perfumes - as the ad-men know only too well. ----------------------------------------------- evidence file for http://www.perceptions.couk.com/genes1.html http://www.perceptions.couk.com/genes6.html http://www.perceptions.couk.com/conscious.html ----------------------------------------------- FURTHER REFERENCES GO - "search perceptions" - in SEARCH-ENGINE file-ID www.perceptions.couk.com/broma.txt
